"Lawful Prospective Immigrant" Visa is the new green channel being drafted by the White House to solved the vexed issue of Permanent Residency for the 11.5 million illegal immigrants supposed to be living at present in the shadows. This is part of the proposed Bill is being drafted by the White House even as two bipartisan groups are going into the issue. One of the groups is headed by high-profile Condoleezza Rice, former secretary of state during the Bush era. The immigration proposal is expected to allow illegal immigrants to become legal permanent residents within 8 years against 10 years previously feared.

In any case, it would entail the illegal immigrant to return to his native country and await Permanent Residence approval. The plan also provides for more security funding. It puts the burden on business owners to check the immigration status of new hires within four years. In addition, the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants could apply for the newly-created visa.

If approved, the illegal immigrants could then apply for the same provisional legal status for their spouse or children if they are living outside the country, according to the draft.
