Government of France said it’s going to stiffen the immigration norms for the future citizens of France. According to the rule the citizens will need to show evidence that they can speak adequate French in order to manage their daily lives.
Candidates applying for France citizenship will have to “prove knowledge of the French Language consistent with understanding the essential points needed to manage daily life,” announced in the Official Gazette of Government.
Earlier the applicants went through language skills test with the immigration officers during the visa interviews but now they will have to show a diploma or certificate granted by state government as a proof of French Language skills. The new rule will come into effect from January 2012.
A report based on Ministry estimation states that nearly 1 million overseas people staying in France are not able to speak French. Government of France is seriously concerned about the issue and had spent $83 million for promoting French Language skills among the immigrants. According to the official reports , France permits Citizenship to nearly 100,00 candidates every year.
