The Canadian Government has indicated that it will introduce changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) which helps employers to usher in skilled professionals from different countries.
New reforms will be accessible to the public in September, after a complete review of the TFWP program in the Parliament. The Liberal Government received numerous complaints from the fishing industry as well as the meat industry stating that they are not able to fill the vacancies because Canadians are not interested in such jobs.
Employers use this program to recruit skilled international workers, but they face difficulty in obtaining Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) as the process is slow. The threshold on the number of foreign employees has been limited to 10 per cent by the previous Conservative Government. However, the ruling Liberals have increased the foreign work force to 20 per cent; more reforms are expected in the future.
Canada Immigration Minister, John McCallum, reiterated the changes to be introduced in the immigration system. He also announced a review of the ‘Canada Express Entry Scheme.’
