To make Puja days special for Bengalis residing in distant places, Goddess Durga has traversed thousands of kilometers over the years. However, Bengalis living in Denmark did not have the opportunity to celebrate their biggest festival worshipping the goddess. This is about to change this year as a shipment is already bound for Copenhagen for the maiden Durga Puja organized by the Bengalis living there. The shipment is carrying life-size idols of Goddess Durga, her children and demon Mahisasura.
iGATE Computer Systems’ director, Rajib Rudra said that Ma Durga has finally determined to set her foot in Copenhagen after travelling all over Europe, and they are sure that she will love the warmth of the newly formed Bengali association and visit Denmark every year. He will be overseeing the food served to the Goddess as well as her devotees.
Preparations are underway in full swing for the festival to be celebrated from October 11 to 13. Debarshi Mukherjee of 'Bengalis in Denmark' that currently has 200 members said that all preparations are on schedule. Sculptors Mohan Bansi Rudra Pal & his son Pradip Rudra Pal created the idol and shipped it in July. Members of ‘Bengalis in Denmark’ have been allocated various responsibilities, including Puja rituals and cultural events.
