Major Changes in Australia Subclass 457 visas
This is indeed the season of changes for immigration, few for good and few for bad, most popular 457 subclass visa is the new victim of these changes. Subclass 457 visa which allows foreign skilled workers to work in Australia for stipulated time for an approved sponsor, is now being undergone few changes.
Immigration Minister Peter Dutton made the announcement of these changes which will come into force from Saturday that is from 19th November 2016. The major change which has been announced takes dig into the further stay of the foreign skilled workers, reducing the time they can remain in Australia after their employment ceases from 90 days to 60 days.
Mr. Dutton said that, “change would assist in ensuring that the 457 visa program meets it intent of acting as a supplement to, rather than a substitute for, Australia workers, as well as reducing the likelihood of 457 visa holders, who are only permitted to work for an approved sponsor and who are not eligible for unemployment benefits, entering into informal employment arrangements being exploited.”
“This change is about to reducing competition from overseas workers for those Australians who are actively looking for work.”
“The government values the contribution made by the many skilled persons who work in Australia on 457 visas, but where there is an Australian worker ready, willing and able to perform a role it is the Government’s policy that they have priority” he said in a statement.
