There were a few changes in the program for employer sponsors, and now it is followed by changes to the List of Regional Occupations for the Skilled Regional (Provisional) subclass 489 visa.
In the R.O.L. there will be an addition of 59 occupations. Here the following are also added which were erased from lists in 2017:
This development is positive for Specialists in HR who did not have a path for migration. Moreover, adding of Policy Analyst will benefit the professionals, who work in the sphere of Academic, Policy and Research who previously found it tough to get employer sponsorship.
The subclass 489 is a temporary /provisional visa, which has 4 years validity and also offers a path to the Skilled Regional subclass 887 visa, which is the PR Visa. Such visa holder has to meet applicable criteria. Moreover they need to maintain residence in a regional area of the country for 2 years, while working for 35 hours in a week in an occupation, located in a regional area for 12 months.
Benefits
Conventionally, skilled overseas nationals make a transition from Graduate Work or a Student visa or from the Post Study Work visa, and gain PR in the General Skilled Migration program. They have the options of Skilled Nominated subclass 190 or Skilled Independent subclass 189 visa. Today it is more and more difficult for them to get the invitations from the Government, to file the applications seeking subclass 189/190. This is a risk to maintain their legal immigration.
The benefits of filing a subclass 489 visa application are:
Increasing the points score for Australia State Nomination
The pass benchmark is 60 points which includes points in State nomination. In instances seeing more demand than supply, the applicant needs a better point score for increasing the chance to get a Government invitation, before they make the visa application.
Increase the processing time
There are several instances where invitations to apply for a 489 visa are issued quickly, if the nominated region is agreeable for sponsoring the applicant.
Work experience for the subclass 887 visa
The regional work experience essential to meet criteria for the 887 visa can happen in any occupation and can also include doing casual jobs. The requirement is that the combined employment hours must be equal to 35 hours per week.
No points Test Requirement - Subclass 887 visa
Making a transition to the 887 visa does not require passing a points test to get the permanent stage of the 489 visa. However, the candidates must meet the legislative criteria.
No Requirement English language - subclass 887 visa
Making a transition to the 887 visa does not require passing an English language requirement.
No age limitation - subclass 887
Making a transition to the 887 visa does not require the applicant to be below 45 years of age, at the time of application.
