Maple Leaf Country Immigrants Are Both Younger And Educated

09 May 2015

Immigration News

As per the new survey, the prospective immigrants to the maple leaf country are not only younger, but are highly educated.  It has also been observed that, due to immigration changes in the recent year, immigrants have credential assessments sooner.

According to WES (World Educational Services), it is one of handful agencies which Ottawa designated to evaluate immigrant credentials. Nearing to 80 % of all its work were done for those who were abroad last year when compared to 16% in 2012.

The study offers a first glimpse into the impact on immigrant profiles under the recent policy changes.  It has surveyed about 28,851 prospective immigrants who were referred by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. About 3,200 completed the questionnaire. During the survey, it was also found that nearing to 95% of that would- be immigrants were of age 25 and 44. In 2013 they were only 84 % but, it has now increased to 95%. The report, which was released on Friday, said that, nearing to 59 % of the respondents said that their highest level of education is bachelor’s degree, while 42 % had a master’s degree and only 3 percent had a doctoral degree.

According to the WES survey, 47 % respondents have expressed their intent to settle down roots in the country.  But the percentage of the newcomers who wish to settle in Ontario has been gradually declining from half of the total immigrant population down to 40 since last decade. We find when immigrants choose destination, only 22 percent has picked Alberta, 12% British Columbia and 4% Nova Scotia.

Nearing to 90% of the people has said that they wish to immigrate to Canada, in order to have a better standard of living.  Ahead of the 70% who have said that they were looking for a better career and job prospects.

Owen has said that, he was surprised of the fact that only 11% of the respondents worried about insufficient English or French language skills would be a hindrance to their prospects. As studies conducted over the years have proved that language is a barrier.  For immigrants especially the newcomers, it is the top challenge to get employed. He also stated that WES has already noticed drops of about 66 percent in credential assessment requests from overseas and a 20% increase from within Canada in the first four months of 2015.

In the month of January, Ottawa has rolled out yet another new Express Entry point system which weighs favorably for immigration applicants already having jobs in Canada.
