The 2014-15 migration program, included in the Australian Federal Budget, will facilitate 190,000 places in total for skilled migration, family migration and others falling under special eligibility stream.
Out of these 190,000 places, 128, 550 places are allocated for skilled migration, 60,885 for family migration and 565 places for the stream of special eligibility, clearly focusing on skilled stream as it is the major source of skilled immigrants capable of contributing to the country’s economy.
Moreover, the family stream has also gained benefits with the increase in allocated places to it, wherein 335 places are allocated to children and partners besides 500 places for the category of contributory parent.
Other announcements reveal that the government will commit to invest $1.3 million over a four-year period for the purpose of extending the arrangements of streamlined student visa processing through suitable education providers and will remove 4000 places of family stream that were allotted previously to asylum seekers.
Earlier on 13 May 2014, The Federal Budget was released by Joe Hockey, treasurer of Commonwealth of Australia. With major cuts in education and health, the budget has been labeled as one of the toughest ones in the history of Australia.
