A recent survey shows that out of 150 IT managers, 61% have said that the biggest obstructor to uptake data analytics for companies is a shortage of relevant skills in Ireland.
The survey was sponsored by EMC, and it reveals that big data is quickly becoming a basis for the present IT market as the internet is continuously creating large amounts of data from varied sources such as social media, sensors on machinery, and internet connected home appliances as per the director of EMC for Scotland, Ireland and North UK, Jason Ward.
With advancements in technology, business can now make use of this information to find out trends in user behavior that can used to build public policy insights and strategic business.
Companies can benefit in numerous ways by using Big data, but to completely evaluate the impact of it on a company’s operation, a business should have an experienced team with indispensable skills to accurately analyze information and correlate to business value, said Jason Ward.
Published in the ‘Action Plan for Jobs’, the government of Ireland has improved its commitment to make the country a leading place for data analytics and big data and has promised to build up the information and communication technology skills in the sector. Ward also said that Ireland wishes to create more number of technology-related jobs in the coming years.
In spite of a global economic crisis, Ireland continued its place as the primary exporter of IT services, while the latest report from Forfas shows that nearly 44,000 technology jobs will be created by 2018, in Ireland. To support the tech industry, and to meet the objectives of the Action Plan for Jobs by the Government, the industry must be encouraged and skills promoted.
