Myanmar ‘s Minister for Hotels and Tourism , Htay Aung said that a new e-visa program will begin in September in advance of the high season for tourism starting October.
The new e-visa program is likely to speed-up the growth of the tourism sector of the country and will make it more convenient for visitors entering the country for tourism.
The e-visa program, which is a part of Myanmar Tourism Master Plan, consists of 38 projects. Moreover, the implementation of the plan is likely to cost $486 million. The nation expects to have 3.0 million tourist arrivals, which is likely to increase by over 7 million by 2020.
The minister claimed that around 85 percent of revenues produced by the tourism industry went to the people directly. In terms of revenue, tourism industry is likely to generate over US$ 1 billion in 2014.
