New Brunswick Sets a Record by Welcoming 5,660 New Immigrants in 2019

New Brunswick obtained 5,660 new immigrants in 2019, a record high for the New Brunswick province, as per the data from Refugees, Immigration, and Citizenship Canada.

Alex LeBlanc, New Brunswick Multicultural Council (NBMC) the executive director said that he thinks it’s remarkably good news for the NB province, considering we’re assuming 120,000 retirements in the following 10 years.

Statistics of New Brunswick Permanent Residents in 2019

The figure indicates a 23% rise from 2018, with 4,610 permanent resident arrivals in the province. Before last year, the biggest number on record was 4,675 in the year 2016, a time when the number of immigrants was boosted by the entrance of Syrian refugees. These numbers do not include temporary residents like foreign students or temporary immigrant workers.

Nearly 85% (4,795) of the permanent resident arrivals in the province in 2019 are economic newcomers, while less than 1% (470) were refugees.

The A.I.P.P was started in 2017. The Canadian government has instructed Marco Mendicino, immigration minister to make the program permanent, and attach 5,000 more positions to the program.

In New Brunswick in the year 2019, 30% of the total permanent residence was achieved by the AIPP, marking a notable increase from the prior year. Another 48% of the total was through the PNP.

Currently, about 72% of the provincial nominees live in New Brunswick beyond a year. The NB province aims to increase this number to 85% by 2024.

It also intends to receive 7,500 newcomers a year by the year 2024 which is 1% of the population, with 33% of that kept for Francophone immigration.

Now, LeBlanc states governments at all levels require to have a coordinated work to assure that they are ready to obtain and properly support the immigrants in everything from driving the workforce to understanding out the school system for their kids.

We have to proceed to attract people and hiring people to the province of New Brunswick, but we have to also be very careful of the settlement requirements that immigrants have when they arrive here, he said.

It’s great news that we’re improving, but now we have to buckle down and work by some of the difficulties that will come with that increase, LeBlanc added.
