New Canadian Immigration Instructions To Prevent The Spread Of COVID - 19

Canada is taking outstanding measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, also recognized as COVID-19, and help newcomers and travelers who are affected by service interruptions.

Below is the policies summary that was announced by the federal government:

Restrictions on International Travel to Canada

On Monday, 16 March 2020, Canada declared it is closing its borders to most individuals who are not Canadian permanent residents or citizens. Exemptions will be made for immediate family members of Canadians, citizens of the US, diplomats and aircrew members.

The government of Canada has told that it will provide the public with more details on the status of those who hold valid study permits and work permits and who are presently abroad. At this time, it is clearly not known whether such people will be permitted to return to Canada.

Border limitations will not appeal to goods and cargo transportation. Also, airlines have been directed to check all boarding passengers for COVID-19 symptoms, and no one who exhibits symptoms will be permitted to fly to Canada.

More time for Canada PR Applications

I.R.C.C is being more sympathetic to those unable to present a complete application for Canada PR before the deadline, enabling an extra 90 days in some cases.

Besides, those who hold PR confirmation and PR visas may be qualified for a prolonged deadline, as long as they notify I.R.C.C of their situation through the web form.

Earlier this month, I.R.C.C declared that it would be prolonging special measures first executed for Chinese nationals to residents of South Korea and Iran as well.

Extensions May be Applied by Temporary Residents

International citizens who are in Canada and whose status of temporary residence will soon expire may appeal for an extension to sustain their status.

Temporary residents intending to extend need to apply online, meet all criteria, and pay related fees. Those who have applications of extension currently in progress will get mentioned status and can reside in Canada until a decision is made on their application.

Ceremonies of Citizenship and Knowledge Examination Canceled

Canada is temporarily canceling all ceremonies of citizenship and knowledge examination and retesting events. These events will be rescheduled shortly but I.R.C.C has not provided any date that when they will resume.
