A new selection system for Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) will be effective from May 4, 2013.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has announced that the selection would be based on candidate’s ability to succeed economically in Canada. The point based visa scheme would judge the language proficiency, age, education, work experience, pre-arranged employment in Canada and adaptability.
These changes would make the Canada immigration system faster and flexible. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has stated that "the government's number one priority remains jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity. The new Federal Skilled Worker Program criteria will ensure Canada is selecting the skilled immigrants our economy needs, who are the most likely to succeed in Canada."
The proposed visa regulations would affect countries like India, China, and Philippines which send the most number of skilled professionals to Canada.
Proposed immigration system will empower Canadian as well as visa applicants for Permanent Residence (PR). Skilled immigrants will be well connected to a Canadian job portal under an 'Expression of Interest' format. This will offer pre-arranged job from the time they reach Canada.
Last year Canada received about 30,000 skilled Indians who were approved PR, figure which is among the highest globally.
This is the right time for skilled professionals to apply for Canadian FSWP and settle in Canada with a PR.
