Many people find Birth Tourism as the easiest way to buy Citizenship for their children; however Canadian government was presented with a new petition which calls for an end for this birth tourism. In the recent electronic poll thousands of Canadians have opposed and signed an electrical petition urging the government to restrict the automatic citizenship rights for the new born in Canada for foreign nationals.
The petition states that the practice of birth tourism is costly for the taxpayers for health, education and other social benefits offered by the government. To the filed petition, Refugee and Citizenship minister John McCallum’s spokes person Camille Edwards responded stating,” Children born in Canada to parents who are temporarily in the country (except children of diplomats, other representatives or employees in Canada of a foreign government) are automatically Canadian citizens under the Canadian Citizenship Act.” She straight away said in the interview that Canada government is in no mood to change these rules; however the government has 45 days to formally respond to the petition.
