According to Sky News’ the Survation Poll, 71% of people who support strong crackdown on immigration are those who do not know any migrants, compared with 58% of people who say they know immigrants well.
The poll found that 67% of the questioned people do not believe that plans to decrease net migration from non-EU countries, goes far enough. Out of the 1,508 adults, the poll also found that 74% are concerned that when transitional controls are lifted in January, Bulgarians and Romanians may be given complete EU rights to be employed in Britain.
Being published as Sky News, the poll devotes coverage to immigration for a week, came about as a report in the Sunday Telegraph is dismissed by the European Commission. The report said had concluded that over 600,000 unemployed migrants from EU are staying in the UK.
The Sunday Telegraph also said that a report of 291-pages will be published this week by Laszlo Andor, the employment and social inclusion commissioner. It also found that last year, there were 611,779 ‘non-active’ non-British EU nationals in Britain which is a significant raise from 431,687 six years ago.
Sources from the Commission said that less than one-thirds (i.e., 28%) of ‘non-active’ EU nationals in the UK are searching for jobs. The remaining are either retired people consisting 30%, disabled consisting 3% and 25% of the people who do not come under any category (generally, indicating a partner/spouse of an employee).
