New Selection System For Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program To Come Into Effect From May 2013

Canada’s Immigration authority Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has announced that the new selection system for the Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) will be effective from May 4th, 2013.

The visa program for skilled professionals will start accepting applications for review from May 4^th 2013.

The program has been reviewed and new details have been announced.

FSWP was paused from mid-2012 to make a few enhancements to the program.

Changes announced are:

• Language proficiency has been made an important factor for selection. Threshold points for official language have been increased.
• Age would also play a major role. Younger applicants would be preferred as they can adapt better to Canada labour market. Their contribution to Canadian economy will be for more years
• Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) would be applicable for all applicants
• Significant changes would be made to arranged employment process which would help employers to hire job applicants quickly
• Additional points would be awarded to applicants for their spouse’s language proficiency and work experience in Canada

Other important announcements by CIC

Beside the announcement of acceptance of applications from May 4th, 2013, 3 more important announcements were made:

• Government has given approval for few organizations who can perform ECA. This list would be made public in New Year
• There will be a cap on number of skilled professional visa applications which would be accepted for review every year.
• Applications will be processed fast in months, as opposed to a year or more.
