New Skilled Regional Visas To Promote Australian Regional Migration

Skilled immigrants who commit to reside and work in an Australian regional area will have a way to two latest skilled provisional visas.

These visas will enable Australian regional businesses to fulfill the vacant jobs quicker and provide further incentives for skilled migrants and also to their family members to settle and continue in the Australian regional areas.

The Two New Skilled Provisional Regional Visas are:

• Skilled Employer-Sponsored (subclass 494) Regional (Provisional) visa- for individuals who are sponsored by an organization in the Australian regional area.
• Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) (Provisional) visa- for individuals who are nominated by a government of State/ Territory or sponsored by a qualified family member to reside and work in the Australian regional area.

The launching of these new visas is followed by a new definition of Australian regional area, which incorporates all of Australia excluding Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, to assure regional Australia continues an attractive goal for skilled migrant aspirants and global students.

Once these holders of the latest visas have resided, worked or studied in Australian regional for a minimum of 3 years, and have met income qualifications, then they can apply for a Skilled Regional Permanent Residence visa starting in November 2022.

To assure that the Federal Government of Australia continues to promote regional Australia, the Federal Government has also allocated 25,000 regional positions in the 2019-2020 Migration Program and has employed Regional Outreach Officers to the Australian regions to encourage skilled migration initiatives and deliver dedicated support to employers in the Australian Regional Areas.
