The improvements to the visa point system follow the direction of the Productivity Commission. The detailed statement declared by the Citizenship, Immigration, and Multicultural Affairs Minister states, The amendments launch an updated points system for the subclass 491 visa along with existing visas of General Skilled Migration. Points are provided for attributes that are associated with the candidates' ability to make the most important economic contribution, as the principal purpose of the skilled migration program is to enhance the economic profits of
migration to Australia.
When points are the same (not including partner qualifications), invitations will be given a rank in the below order:
-
Candidates without a de facto partner or spouse
-
Applicants with a de facto partner or spouse who shows knowledge in English but who do not have the skills to get Skilled partner
-
Applicants with a de facto partner or spouse who is not qualified for either enough English or Skilled partner points
For a de facto partner or spouse to obtain points for competent English, they need to clear a recognized English test.
