New Zealand aspires to have more comprehensive market access for its apples, dairy products, wine, and kiwis into India as a component of the ongoing Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (R.C.E.P) pact being discussed by 16 nations, told Jeremy Clarke-Watson, the Nation's special envoy for Commonwealth Trade Integration.
India's request for easier movement of professionals and workers is being considered sincerely by New Zealand and could be reached provided barriers of the market to New Zealand's goods are relaxed, Watson announced in an interview.
New Zealand says that they are conscious of India's demands in the easier visas for professionals and workers. It is being provided very sincere consideration with negotiators and NZ government in Wellington. New Zealand looking to react to India's demand positively. But it gets down also to India giving New Zealand with commercially significant market access for products as well, told Clarke-Watson.
For things like wine and apples, though, India may have difficulty offering higher market access as these things are deemed sensitive for the economy and have been prolonged protection in all the F.T.As signed so far.
Clarke-Watson is now in India to meet officials of the Indian government and explore ways for enhanced cooperation within the two nations, as both are Commonwealth members. Digital trade, finance, bilateral business-to-business collaboration, infrastructure, and S.M.Es are the main focused areas.
While India is not satisfied with its R.C.E.P. member nations, which comprises the 10-member ASEAN, Japan, China, New Zealand, South Korea, and Australia have offered so far, particularly in services, Clarke-Watson states that the most significant value is often derived in the previous phase.
In a meeting, you clear the simple problems first, and then you move to the hard ones. The last steps are regularly the one that takes more time. I believe it is in the interest of both New Zealand and India to get to the R.C.E.P conclusion and I think this can be done, he told.
