Ontario Closes Public Consultation Period For Its Immigration Streams
04 Jun 2019
The public consultation period has closed for a raft of reforms planned for the entrepreneur and skilled worker streams below the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.
Ontario published as part of its budget of the province in April that it was intended multiple modifications to its streams of immigration.
A public consultation period was accessed for stakeholders to have their say, but that closed on Thursday, 30 May 2019.
Reforms are planned for the below streams:
-
Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills Stream
-
Express Entry-linked streams: French Speaking Skilled Worker, Human Capital Priorities, and Skilled Trades
-
Entrepreneur Stream
Meanwhile, the reforms will see the end of the Ontario Corporate Stream, which is unpopular.
Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills Stream
The In-Demand Skills Stream encourages businesses facing labor deficits in lower skilled professions in the agricultural and construction sectors.
Reforms will see professions added below NOC 3413 – Nurse aides, patient service associates and orderlies, NOC 7511 – Transport Truck Drivers, and NOC 4412 – Home support workers and similar occupations, it excludes housekeepers.
Ontario is also intending to decrease the work experience demand through the stream, from a minimum one-year full-time work experience, or the similar part-time work experience to minimum 09 months full-time work experience, or the similar part-time work experience.
Express Entry-Associated Streams
The 03 Ontario
Express Entry streams for French Speaking Skilled Workers, Human Capital Priorities, and Skilled Trades will see a modification to the commencement date for qualifying work experience.
Earlier, work experience was evaluated as of the date where a candidate obtained a Notification of Interest. Moving forward, the program is intending to evaluate work experience as of the application date, to join it with other parameters.
Entrepreneur Stream
Ontario will drop the least net worth and investment thresholds for the OINP’s Entrepreneur Stream and stop the Corporate Stream below new plans.
Canada’s biggest province also intends to drop the business experience demanded below the famous Entrepreneur Stream.
The plan would see the below modifications to the OINP's Entrepreneur Stream requirements for net worth:
-
Net worth demand decreased from CAD 1.5 million to CAD 800,000 for businesses established in the Greater Toronto Area.
-
Net worth demand decreased from CAD 800,000 to CAD 400,000 for businesses established GTA outside.
-
Net worth demand decreased from CAD 800,000 to CAD 400,000 for tech or digital communications companies, irrespective of location.
An additional Entrepreneur Stream move would see the required experience in business lowered from 36 months in the preceding 60 months, to 24 months in the previous 60 months.
