Ontario Proposes Changes to Its Popular Nominee Program - Opulentuz

Ontario has published new details of recommended changes to many key streams of Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.

The modifications touch on current streams of Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program and do not detail the latest stream for international tech workers or the new smaller communities pilot declared in the province’s 2019 budget in the current week.

Two reforms highlighted in the budget that are involved are proposed drops to the minimum net worth and investment thresholds for the O.I.N.P’s Entrepreneur Stream and the adding of new professions to the current seven that are available below the Employer Job Offer: Stream of In-Demand Skills.

Ontario is also recommending the end of its Corporate Stream and minor updates to eligibility conditions for some of the O.I.N.P’s more successful immigration pathways, including its Express Entry-associated Human Capital Priorities, Skilled Trades, and French-Speaking Skilled Worker streams.

Among other Targets, the O.I.N.P said the intended changes are meant to increase the responsiveness of the O.I.N.P to the current labor market and employer requirements, along with the promoting regions that do not traditionally see notable levels of immigration.

All intended changes would only go into force after a 45-day public consultation session that closes on May 30, 2019.

This article seems at intended modifications to the below O.I.N.P streams:

  • Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills Stream
  • Express Entry-aligned streams
  • Entrepreneur Stream
  • Corporate Stream
  • Masters Graduate and Ph.D. streams

Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills Stream

2019 budget of Ontario announced personal support workers and truck drivers would be attached to the list of qualified occupations below the O.I.N.P’s Employer Job Offer: Stream of In-Demand Skills.

The budget says it will reflect better for employer and labor market requirements.

The stream helps organizations facing deficits in lower-skilled professions rated below National Occupational
Classification (N.O.C) of Canada as Skill Level C or D.

Express Entry-associated Streams

A small change intended for the 03 O.I.N.P streams that are associated with the Canada Express Entry system — the French-Speaking Skilled Worker, Human Capital Priorities and Skilled Trades streams — would modify the start date for work experience qualification.

Whereas work experience was priorly evaluated as of the aspirant received date of NOI from Ontario, the current criteria would recognize work experience evaluated as of the aspirant applying date for a provincial nomination.

Express Entry applicants who appeal for and obtain a nomination from Ontario are granted a further 600 points via their Express Entry ranking score.

Entrepreneur Stream

In 2019 Ontario budget, the Ontario government announced adjusting the net-worth and investment thresholds for the O.I.N.P’s Entrepreneur Stream will “make Ontario further competitive with other provinces” and increase the province’s prospective candidates base.

The Entrepreneur Stream enables qualified candidates to start a new business or purchase a current business in Ontario.

Corporate Stream Termination

Ontario Government said the decision to stop the O.I.N.P’s Corporate Stream was based on the opinion that “it has not reached its expected goal of bringing global businesses to Ontario.”

This stream was intended to support established foreign corporations looking to develop into Ontario or acquire a current business in Ontario.
