U.K's leading business lobby organization raised concerns over the government's interim immigration cap, saying it was causing "serious problems" for business.
Also, business Secretary Vince Cable said the rules are causing "great damage" to business. Cable, who is from the junior Liberal Democrat coalition government, had previously indicated his unease over the policy.
At the same time, a leading immigration campaign group and several companies are preparing to mount a legal challenge against the coalition government’s annual limit on migrants from India and other countries outside the European Union.
Several leading companies, including GE, and ministers in the David Cameron government opposed the annual limit on the ground, stating that it is already hurting British economic recovery since companies are unable to find the right people with the right skills within the EU.
The annual cap is to be in place permanently from April 2011. Until then, the government has placed the limit at 24,100 migrants from outside the EU who could be allowed to take up jobs in Britain.
