Overseas students in Australia who are facing difficulty with their study course because of their level of English are being advised to talk to their student advisors.
Every year many overseas students in Australia join new university courses and find it hard to keep up if their English language level is not up to scratch, but immigration officials remind that these overseas students can shift to sign up for an extra language qualification and then go back to their main degree.
With the support of their university, overseas students in Australia can take an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS).
Studying ELICOS in an English school in Australia is equivalent to participating in a sector of Australian education that has been refined to allow speakers of ESL (English as Second language) to either advance their English or to move on to academic studies.
Most countries have no control over ESL teaching. However, the English teaching industry is regulated by the Australian government to ensure high quality of instruction for all overseas students in Australia.
A spokesman for the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) said that if overseas students are having hard time in their course, they must talk to their student advisor. If students need to delay their commencement of study course to finish an English course, then they should confirm that their education provider has issued a new enrollment confirmation.
