UK Border Agency has made pre-entry TB screening mandatory for Indian visa applicants if they will stay in UK for more than 6 months. New requirement has been implemented from August 16, 2012 for long stay visa. Pre-entry TB screening is required only if you are traveling to UK for more than 6 months. Less than 6 months stay in UK either for business, family or tourism doesn’t require a pre-entry TB screening.
TB screening would be extended to work visa applications (Tiers 1, 2 and 5 of the points-based system) from 10 September 2012 and student visa applications (Tier 4) from 1 November 2012.
The rule is presently applied to each and every person applying for a UK visa residing in India other than temporary visitors. TB screening should be conducted at an approved clinic. UKBA has approved specific health organizations for TB screening which would cost the applicant INR 1,500. On successfully clearance of the screening, the visa applicant will receive a TB screening certificate valid for 6 months. This should be included along with the settlement or visa application.
