Quebec’s current system of Expression of Interest has observed 91,000 applicants submit profiles since it began in Sept 2018, the provincial immigration ministry (M.I.D.I) has declared.
The data reveals higher than 23,000 applicants signed up within a month of the launch of ‘Arrima,’ the name assigned to the portal of Quebec Expression of Interest.
The system is intended to run in a similar path to the system of federal Express Entry. Applicants’ profiles are provided a score upon the requirements of the Quebec labor market, with the highest-scoring applicants invited to provide appeals to the Quebec Skilled Worker Program.
However, there have been no invitations to appeal announced to applicants, as Quebec chooses what it needs to do with the backlog applications prior to the Arrima system started.
The government of Coalition Avenir Quebec has faced a negative reaction after tabling Bill 9, part of which involves canceling 18,000 applications presently awaiting processing below the old system of first-come, first served.
Applicants who have been waiting for a long time for their applications to be processed are abruptly facing the chance of having their files shredded.
Opposition lawyers and politicians groups tell the C.A.Q plan is heartless and that they are incorrect to assume the Arrima system to fix Quebec skilled worker program overnight.
Around 91,000 applicants submitted their profiles in the system, 23,080 applied in the initial month later Arrima started.
They cover 5,260 with experience and skills in administration, 2,160 possible nurses and 720 mechanical engineers.
The tabling of Bill 9 looks as the C.A.Q is pushing forward with a campaign commitment to cut Quebec immigration in the year 2019, from a target of 50,000 to 40,000.

The step to decrease immigration comes in spite of Quebec’s labor deficit, with an assumed 100,000 jobs unfilled in the Quebec province.
Meanwhile, the Canadian government is concentrating on improving national immigration to 350,000 immigrants per year by 2021, as per the levels plan declared in Oct 2018.
The C.A.Q states it needs to lessen the immigration temporarily so that the integrating process of current immigrants can be enhanced. Bill 9 will put a continual end to many applications.
With much of Quebec suffering chronic labor deficits, opposing parties to the government’s policies tell that the province is in desperate demand of increased immigration, mainly in the Economic Class.
