Quebec Prolongs Health Coverage for Temporary Immigrant Workers

As of 29 April 2020 temporary immigrant workers whose permits are expiring and can't be resumed due to processing obstructions and as a result of the specific measures put in place by Refugees, Immigration, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) can profit from continued way to the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Quebec (R.A.M.Q).

Complete Details about Quebec’s Health Coverage

R.A.M.Q (the board of government health insurance in Quebec) officials verified the choice in a letter sent to the Quebec section of Canada's Bar Association in the previous week.

Temporary immigrant workers (TFW) who have appealed to have their permits prolonged but whose permit terminates before a judgment is given by the federal immigration officials, can continue in Canada below implied status.

However, in Quebec, the status of implied doesn't give an immigrant worker a right of access to the R.A.M.Q and means, among different things, that they would not be allowed to reimbursement of costs for hospitals.

In current weeks, many companies, humanitarian aid movements, and lawyers of immigration have called on governments to act, highlighting, and the shortage of medical coverage and the uncertain immigration status of T.F.Ws. Several workers find themselves in a helpless situation because their applications are on hold due to delays in the processing that hitting all levels of government since specific measures were put in place to handle the coronavirus pandemic.

From now onwards, all temporary immigrant workers with a valid status of implied in Quebec will be able to profit from a 6-month extension of the medical coverage given by the R.A.M.Q.

Following these steps, candidates will be sent with new R.A.M.Q cards that will be valid for tenure of 6 months. The health coverage may also be prolonged to accompanying members of the family.

This support measure is restricted to individuals who earlier had access to the R.A.M.Q, as per the information reported by Radio-Canada.

Those without a card of health insurance, who may be influenced by the COVID-19, still have the access to free health care following a declaration made by the government of Quebec at the close of March.?
