In April 2010, Australian immigration department has commenced a six month trial of reduced visa evidencing hours to encourage the update of visa label free travel. After a review of the trial, the department has decided to cease the reduced visa evidencing hours commencing on 13th December 2010 in all state and territory offices.
Clients will be able to be issued a visa label during standard counter service hours.
In most cases, the Australian Government does not require visa holders to have a visa label placed in their passports – the label is simply a method of facilitating travel to and from Australia. For this reason, the department generally only issues visa labels to clients if they are travelling to a country where a visa label is required.
The department’s Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) system remains the preferred method for visa holders who do not have a label in their passport to confirm their visa details online.
The next preferred method is a letter confirming the grant of their visa confirming their visa status and entitlements.
