Reference Persons Can Now Use The Application Portal Norway

People, companies and institutions who are named as references in an application for a visa or residence permit can now use our online application portal to confirm information, register additional information and pay the fee for the applicant.

A reference person may be an employer, a representative from an educational establishment or a host family for an au pair or a family member.

The Application Portal Norway (ApN) is an online self service portal where applicants can register their applications for visas, residence permits for work and studies, family immigration , permanent residency and citizenship.

The role of the reference person

When an applicant names a reference person, this person will receive an e-mail from ApN confirming that he/she has been specified as a reference person in an application to the UDI.

The e-mail will include a link to ApN with details explaining how the reference person may log on.  The reference person must have a Norwegian personal identity number and a pin number/password for Altinn/MinID in order to log on.

The reference person can then confirm information, register additional information and pay the applicant’s fees. However, it is still the applicant who must start and finish the application process, and the applicant must still visit the police or foreign service mission to hand in the necessary additional documentation. Employers who have been given power of attorney by the applicant are exempted from this rule.  

Fill out forms

As a reference person you will be able to confirm information in the following forms in the Application Portal Norway:

Employer: Offer of employment and employment contract for workers in non-profit, humanitarian or religious organisations
Host family: Au pair contracts and information letter
Educational establishments: Confirmation of admission
Family members in Norway: Confirmation of information given by the applicant in an application for family immigration, and guarantee form for residence
Hosts of someone applying for a visa: Guarantee form for visit. (The guarantor must still visit the police or the foreign service mission in order to have the form stamped.)

The applicant must print out the form which the reference person has filled out in the Application Portal Norway, sign it and take it to the foreign service mission or the police when they hand in their additional documentation.

Employers and educational establishments

In order for employers and educational establishments to be named a reference, they must provide the applicant with their organisation number, the name of a contact person and an email address for the contact person.

If you wish to be a reference person on behalf of a private company or organisation, you will need the Altinn role ’UDI reference person’. This is carried out in Altinn by the official in your company with responsibility for allocating rights (for example the CEO or the chairman/chairwoman of the board).
