Au pair is a foreign-national domestic assistant working for, and living as part of, a host family.
A new bilateral agreement with the Philippines and a fresh set of rules will allow the Immigration Ministry to stop au pairs misusing their stay in Denmark to achieve permanent residence. New rules were implemented since yesterday that it will no longer be possible for an au pair to stay with a family member in Denmark, or with a family of the same nationality. The new rules are particularly aimed at the growing number of au pairs from the Philippines.
As per the new rule, Au pair visa applicants should be unmarried and under the age of 30. Visas are restricted to those who do not have young children in their country of origin. The ministry has begun to run checks on the marital status of candidates for au pair visas. During the spot checks, it has been discovered that over half had given false information and were therefore ineligible.
