President Jacob Zuma has opened South Africa for business at the Davos meet, calling upon multinationals to participate in the six drivers of the economy, including infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, mining, manufacturing and the green economy. He told the leaders attending the World Economic Forum that Pretoria meant business and choice destination for investors. He pointed out that the National Development Plan, produced by the Planning Commission in his office, was the blueprint for development. This was endorsed by the recently concluded 53rd session of the ruling African National Congress.
Reiterating that the Development Plan was not just a five-year one, but extendable till 2030, he dwelt on the 2011 census report which pointed to the three fierce enemies – poverty, unemployment and inequality. These are such serious problems that fighting these could last long.
The Census made the important noting that economy was still in favor of the white compatriots as a result of skewed growth. This is the common concern for all.
Referring to the strikes in mines for wage increases and so on, President Zuma said those were part of the democratic process. The platinum mines’ strike was, however, was linked with the price and the demand. He started and interspersed his address with the frequent use of compatriots that sent a friendly message to all.
