Scotland Aims To Offer Post Study Visas To Indians

To overrule the British parliament, Scotland is busy working.  If essential it may introduce a special visa which would permit the Indian student to work for atleast 2 yrs after they complete their study.

Scotland does need immigration. It requires bright students from India to come as well as study in its 19 world class universities and then stay back and work so that it can develop its economy. The Scotland’ international development Minister Humza Yousaf has told TOI that Scotland population is rapidly gaining and hence it is leading to acute shortage of skilled workers. We require bright immigrants from India to fill in. We need engineers, experts in the oil as well as gas industry and healthcare specialist like pediatricians.

Glasgow has pioneered the Fresh Talent working in Scotland scheme visa in the year 2006, she also added that, this has enabled the students belong Scottish institutions to remain there for 2 years to work and gain further experience. The scheme ran from 2005 to 2008, when it subsumed into UK wide tier 1(post study work ) visa. Coalition govt led by David Cameron , later abolished which took over Westminster in 2010.

This visa would be for Indian students to study in Scottish university after which they can work only in Scotland, he adds.

The SNP has put together a 12 member group, which include one representative from all major political parties in Scotland, experts from Scottish universities and members of the industry to look at how the visa can best work in Scotland.

The SNP does strongly feel that the present four months given to international students at the end of their studies is insufficient time for most to find skilled employment and to transition to Tier 2 visa.

With one in every three outbound higher education students across the globe is expected to be from India as well as china by 2024, Scotland does not want to lose out on the revenue it can earn from the foreign student.
