Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s 2nd visit to the United States is garnering even more interest than his first trip, particularly because in the intervening year, the India and US dialogue has been intensified.  Modi was also slated to travel to California, the 1st to do so at a time when people belonging to Indian origin have established themselves as front-runners in Technology and Entrepreneurship in the vibrant region. The Indian industry does have high hopes from the visit.

In the US, the Indian investments are robust when compared to investments in other direction about the sizes of the respective economies. As per the report of  CII-Grant, the top Indian companies have recorded over $15 billion of investment across all states and they employ about 95000 individuals directly. The Indian industry expects Mr Modi’s visit to act on the dual-pronged approach. On one hand, the issues that hinder trade in goods and services need to be resolved to achieve $500 billion trade target in the shortest possible time.  We find, on the other hand, there has been the huge push that needs to be imparted to US investments in India, particularly across manufacturing and infrastructure.

Regarding the trade, the multiple dialogue platforms have revived during the past year and they have set the stage for the new announcements. The Trade policy forum, high technology co-operation group and CEO’s forum are looking at co-operation in areas such as agriculture, services, manufacturing and also intellectual property. Few of the matter have taken in these meetings that include social security utilization and visa regulation and ease to do business and international standards.

Promotion of Trade in Services can be done through facilitative regulations regarding the movement of the technology, personnel and date. It is crucial to developing a separate work visa for the professionals on short duration contract so that they are exempted from the annual quota, which is non-refundable social security taxes and also an application for labour conditions.
