A Gallup study revealed that Singapore along with Japan and other developed countries around the world is considered a preferred place by the young generation.
Gallup said in the report by summarizing the findings of its annual ‘Net Migration Index’ that Singapore has the fastest-ageing populations and lowest fertility rates in the world and that the preference of youth to Singapore is a happy note.
As per the study, most Asian countries can expect a brain drain including Japan but with the exception of Singapore because it would continue to see that its overall population triples. As per the Gallup poll, it would see its population of well-educated people quadruple and the number of young people increases six-fold.
The study is based on responses from 350,000 adults in 148 countries who were asked whether they, if given the opportunity, would like to move permanently to another country, and if so, where.
Overall, Singapore's population would burgeon by 219 per cent, from its current 5 million to 15 million, leapfrogging it to the top of Gallup's Potential Net Migration Index. The index is calculated by subtracting the number of people who want to move out of a country from those who want to move in. Singapore is followed by New Zealand, Canada and Switzerland.
