The Malaysian-Chinese economic and diplomatic ties have been further strengthened with the opening of the Kuantan Industrial Park in just 4 months. The park has already received investments worth RM10.5b, and created 8,500 jobs. The park’s full development is expected to take 2 years.
Launching the park at Kuantan, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said on Tuesday that the park had been accorded national status, with the private sector participation and guided by the government. He noted that the cooperation between the two countries had reached a new high, and both the governments were planning deeper commitment in the next 5 years. Soon, the two countries would map out opportunities for co-operation till 2017.
Tun Razak pointed out: “Over the past decade, the world has come to terms with a model where China’s need for resources has created new patterns of trade and influence. Now the world is beginning to recognize that Chinese innovation and domestic demand will prove just as potent a force in the global economy. .. I am proud to say Malaysia is ahead of the curve.”
Not only China, Malaysia’s visionary leaders have entered into similar agreements with all the neighbors, giving them Most favored nation treatment in terms of trade that has kept the country in good stead and on the road to rapid development.
