Canadian government will introduce a new immigration system in 2015 known as “Express Entry” for skilled immigrants who wish to migrate to Canada permanently.
Under the new immigration program, the federal government has increased the number of applications that it would receive from the foreign workers and made number of occupations twice the existing occupations under which they can apply.
According to the federal government, “Express Entry” is more efficient than the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and this program will make sure that skilled immigrants reside in Canada permanently fulfilling the labor needs of the country. Through "Express Entry", skilled immigrants can check whether they are in line with the labor needs determined by territories, provinces and employers. Jobs offered by the employers to skilled immigrants will be subject to Labor Market Opinions (LMOs), which are required to show the necessity of employing a skilled foreign immigrant over a Canadian.
Candidates, who hold highest rank, will get an invitation to file their applications for permanent residency. Upon receipt of invitation, the government would process it within six months.
Canadian government is hiring foreign workers in 50 different occupations including family physicians, electrical engineers, registered nurses, specialists, financial managers, accountants, civil and mechanical engineers and auditors.
Effective 1 May 2014, the government has started accepting 25,000 applications under Federal Skilled Worker Program. The eligible professions under this program are doubled from 24 to 50 and 36 new occupations were added. According to the statistics, a total of 157 applications were received by the government.
Most applicants have applied for the three professions namely financial & investment analysts, computer programmers & interactive media developers and software engineers & designers. This is the final call for immigrants to apply under current immigration system prior to the initiation of new immigration system.
