Swiss Authorities Plan To Initiate Referendum For Immigrant Quotas

The Swiss Government says a referendum will be held with regard to the nationalist oriented proposal to introduce quotas for the immigrants. The Government in a statement has claimed that a campaign group referred to as Stop Mass Immigration has undoubtedly gathered the required 100,000 signatures in order to force clearing of the referendum.

The plan for caps for all types of foreigners living as well as working in Switzerland is being planned by the Swiss authorities. The Swiss government also has called upon its citizens to receive priority for any new additional jobs and also has restricted types of social services that a foreigner can enjoy.

Critics of the referendum feel that it breaches the Treatises held by Switzerland with the European countries. Immigration to Switzerland is much sought after and every effort is made by the migrant to receive residency visa, in order to settle in this picturesque country.

Switzerland had brought in thousands of guest workers from Southern Europe after World War II. In 2008, the maximum number of foreigners who received work permits and residency were from India, mostly IT professionals.
