Systeme Abuse Countered - Study Permit Regulations Changes

Since CIC changed to IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), the conditions regarding issuing of a study permit to students has been updated. A student will now be required  to complete a prerequisite program before  he or she starts a second study program in DLI.

The acceptance letter is a must from the Designated Learning Institution prior to applying for a study permit. The permit is accepted under certain conditions for the candidates completing a course in a language which must be a part of their main Study Program. Before the upgrade, students in a scenario like this used to receive a long- term study permit which covered the prerequisite course along with the main program. According to the new upgrade in the regulation, study permits that were previously assigned for one DLI  will now be available for two.  

Some students showed their concern regarding the changes. In response to that, government showed the misuse of the extended permit. Some of the students used the extended permit for working rather than studying. The concern of immigration officers is conveyed as the students are required to pursue their study program in Canada.
