Canada Immigration Minister, John Mc Callum’s recent comments on new immigration rules state that temporary low-skilled migrant workers can easily procure Canada’s permanent residency and further will be eligible to apply for Canada’s Citizenship.
The Minister in an interview to the media has not revealed the details of the complete changes; but, said that he is waiting for a parliamentary report which will be introduced in the House of Commons soon.
The Liberal Government which assumed the power in November 2015 is overhauling the Canada’s immigration procedures, to attract the low-skilled workers to its labor market.
The employee unions are worried about the immigration changes and opposing the changes as it could impact Canadians wages and opportunities.
Answering to a question on relaxation of visa rules to low-skilled workers, McCallum said, the government "is certainly considering providing a pathway to permanent residence" to the workers.
"We think that those who come, in general, should have a pathway to permanent residence more so than is the case today," he said. "If they’re on a pathway to permanent residence, they’re only temporary for a while, and then they become full Canadians."
