In the recent years, the relationship between India and Canada is expected to strengthen, says the ICCI (Indo and Canada Chamber of Commerce).
Makkar says, Modi was the first Indian P.M to visit Canada and his strong chemistry with counterpart of Canada, Stephen Harper, who has spent nearing to 50 hours, is a fresh milestone in relationship between two nations.

The rules of Canadian immigration have been streamlined. The indo-Canada chamber of commerce president says, more number of skilled Indians received entry to Maple leaf nation, Canada. Similarly, Canadian colleges as well as universities rushed to India in order to have tie up with counterparts of India. Students belonging to Indian origin have suddenly recorded growth many folds, from mere 3000 to 4000 during the previous years to 30,000.
Another sign of strengthening the bilateral ties between the two nations includes launching of direct flight from Toronto to Delhi. Makkar added that, tourism will be another major area for concentration among the two nations. The Indo and Canada Chamber of Commerce has created a hospitality and tourism committee , so that they can focus on this particular area.
He added, once Canada and our nation India sign CEPA( Comprehensive, Economic Partnership Agreement), it would help in unleashing the real potential of bilateral relationship. As Canadian have apprehension about corruption and red-tapism, CEPA for some time is under discussion. India presently recognizes that maple leaf nation, Canada is a significant player and it has the ample resources as well as know how in the areas of renewable energy, infrastructure and education, which India has been focusing on. Both govt’s are anxious to sign the CEPA very soon.
Makkar says, the CEPA joining with strong Indian diaspora numbering 1.2 million, it will help relationship of India and Canada to reach new levels.
The Indo-Canadians now become more visible and these individuals hold top positions in varied areas. The chamber president added, they are considered to be huge factor for the growth of India and Canada relations.
