The Danish support for democratic development in Uganda shows that it is possible to make a positive difference. This is the conclusion in a new publication 'Governance for Development – Five years support to democracy, human rights, justice and peace building in Uganda'.
Donor support for good governance, democratisation, an active civil society, combating corruption and an independent judiciary is filled with dilemmas, but experiences from Uganda are good. The Danish support for democratic development in Uganda shows that it is possible to make a positive difference.
This is the conclusion in a new publication 'Governance for Development – Five years support to democracy, human rights, justice and peace building in Uganda'. This brings to the table some of the big questions in development cooperation: Is it possible for an external donor to support NGOs in a developing country in a big way without eroding the legitimacy of the NGOs? Is it possible for an external donor in one and same country to support the judiciary while also supporting NGOs to watch over whether the judiciary delivers its services?
