U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services which is almost or entirely funded by the fees paid by the applicants and petitioners for immigration benefits, has finally announced a final rule published in the Federal Register adjusting the fees required for most of the immigration applications and petitions. The new fees will come into effect from 23rd December 2016.
USCIS changes its fee for every two years after completing its review and come to a concrete conclusion on the funding levels necessary to administer the nation’s immigration laws, process benefit requests and provide the infrastructure needed to support the immigration activities.
When compared to the previous fee hike, for the first time ever in the last six years, the fee has been increased to an average of 21 percent for almost all the applications and petitions. The increase in the fee gives a clear picture of increase in the service cost for USCIS; this fee will cover the expenses of USICS and includes the cost associated with fraud detection and national security, customer service and case processing.
The below link will provide insight in the new fee structure of USICS for different applications and petitions.
