Theresa May, the Prime Minister; might scrutinize the number of visas granted to students to UK university applicants in order to reduce immigration to the country. She has been reportedly preparing a new government policy to bring some reforms for the higher education institutions. They claim that Universities and such institutions has become an easy route to come to Britain, for economic migrants.
According to the sources, Home Office and Department of Education will examine the student visa administration and constrict the rules. Previously, Theresa May tried to reduce the limit of visas given to the students. She has mentioned and argued with other ministers asking them to, "Develop sustainable funding models that are not so dependent on international students."
Mostafa Rajaai, International Officer for the National Union of Students, said, “Thanks to Theresa May's approach to international students while she was in charge of the Home Office, we have witnessed, for the first time in 30 years, a drop in the number of international students coming to the UK. This is while the number of internationally mobile students has been rising year on year.” He also said that “While the inquiry into May's actions in response to the 'ETS scandal' is ongoing, she is preparing to devastate more lives by raising feelings of suspicion and distrust.”
Such actions are affecting Briton universities to take a step back. They are preventing themselves from marketing their courses to the international students and portraying them as an opportunity to work in Britain.
