Tremendous Growth Observed In Number Of Blue Card Holders In Germany

Germany is one of the top favorite countries for highly-skilled immigrants ever since the initiation of the EU Blue Card in the year 2012. Current statistics published by the Federal Office of Germany for Migration and Refugees (B.A.M.F) reveals that Germany has announced 85 percent of the entire number of Blue Cards given by the EU nations since 2012.

In a correlation of all EU nations, Germany is in the leading position in announcing of the EU Blue Cards. In the year 2017, 84.5% of all EU-announced Blue Cards were announced by Germany. It was accompanied by France which secures 4.3%, Luxembourg secures 2.8%, Poland secures 1.9%, and Italy secures 1.2%, the BAMF report says.

In total, Germany has announced 104,000 Blue Cards since the initiation of the program 6 years ago.

Only in the year 2018, a sum of 27,241 Germany Blue Cards was announced to non-EU workers with a degree from university or 25.4 percent higher than the preceding year. Remarkable 42.3 percent of those who obtained the cards in the last year 2018 were the first time to Germany. Another 57.8 percent prolonged their current status.

As per the BAMF, 51,130 individuals living in Germany on 31 December 2018 had an EU Blue Card, with 55 percent of them also having a status of permanent residency.

The first five countries obtaining EU Blue Cards in the year 2018 are as follows: India makes up 27.7 percent of Germany Blue Card holders while China makes up 8 percent. Following countries are Russian with 5.9 percent, Turkey with 4.8 percent and Brazil with 3.7 percent.
