Controversy ruled the Canadian Parents and Grandparents Program opening on 28th Jan 2019 as the portal of Interest to Sponsor ended just moments after it was started.

Several who desired to complete the process told they never had a path to the link via the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website.

Others reported giving the form, filling it in, then receiving a message stating the form was already finished prior to they were ready to submit.

Opening of Parents and Grand Parents Program

The process was expected to open at noontime EST on Jan 28, 2019, and had been extensively advertised by I.R.C.C in the previous weeks. By 12.11pm EST, I.R.C.C had earlier tweeted that the process was completed.

However, I.R.C.C intensified the confusion with a tweet at 12.06pm EST stating that The form of interest to sponsor for the Program of Parents and Grandparents will be accessible momentarily.

This tweet was finally removed, substituted with one stating: The form of interest to sponsor for the 2019 Program of Parent and Grandparent is now ended. If you strongly submitted the form, you must obtain an email within 24 hours verifying we received it.

Users overwhelmed Twitter to protest about the process, asking an explanation from I.R.C.C.

I.R.C.C prepared to receive 27,000 forms of interest to sponsor in the window, stating there could be a demand to open the process over later in the year as it runs towards a 2019 objective of 20,000 application.

The process of interest to sponsor was modified for the year 2019 to a system of ‘first-in, first-served,’ with invitations to appeal announced in the order where the forms of interest to sponsor are obtained.
