The Leading business group has warned the govt against tightening the rules for the workers who have been employed and belong to the foreign nation. It states that closing door to the international talent is a clear threat to the London status, which is a hub for the world leading global talent.
In a formal submission this week, the Migration Advisory Committee, a group of experts who advise the govt on varied immigration issues. The first business group London has cautioned that stricter migration policies can hinder the hiring of the top talent.
Business requires immigration system that is flexible and should support recruitment of international talent than to hinder it. The group said.
In May, Prime Minister of UK has asked MAC to look at the proposals to cut the migration to the UK from Outside the EEA(European Economic Area). It includes raising the salary threshold for the skilled workers on so-called Tier 2 visas.
But after the preliminary consultation in the month of June and July, the MAC has said in a report which was published this summer, which the govt must think twice before it lifts the salary threshold. It presently stands at £20,800 each year for the new hires and £41,500 for long-term intra-company transfers.
In a report, the committee has stated that there is little doubt about an immediate introduction of the salary threshold. This level is strongly be opposed by numerous employers. And it would result in a serious problem.
The MAC has now conducted a second consultation, and it is expected to publish a wider review in December.
For the ongoing consultation in its submission, the London has first recommended to end g cap on overseas migrant’s number , while leaving the intra-company transfer which are uncapped and maintain the present salary threshold levels for Tier 2 visas.
Quoting the recent examples of the city firms that were unable to secure visa’s for the graduates, London First has stated that the visa cap would put the UK-based graduate programs at risk.
The firms would consider relocating these particular programs, which are often planned in advance, out of UK, if access to their international graduates has not been guaranteed. The London First has said; this would affect the position of the native graduates belonging to the UK on these programs.
