UK Immigration Bill Receives 'Royal Assent' Opening Doors For New Reforms

On May 14^th, UK’s immigration bill received or was bestowed ‘royal assent’. This makes way for a number of ‘immigration reforms’ which will guarantee that UK’s immigration system is fairer to UK citizens and those who are legitimate migrants, while being tough on those with no right to stay in the UK. This act which became law is the Immigration Act 2014, which, in all, comprises of 77 clauses and brings about some basic/ fundamental changes to how that country’s immigration system works.

It will also circumscribe the factors which attract illegal immigrants to the country and will aid in removing those who do not have the right to be in the UK. It will also ensure that courts have respect for (i.e. they respect) the views or opinions of the parliament of the county when they take into account Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, in cases related to immigration.

According to the immigration and security minister of the UK, James Brokenshire, the immigration act which has become law is a prominent and important legislation which will improve UK’s immigration system and makes sure that it is works in the country’s national interest. He added that his department is already planning its implementation. According to the minister, the immigration act will in a major way improve the way Immigration Enforcement is done and border force and UK visas and Immigration perform their work to protect the border, implement immigration enforcement and promote the way for the best and the brightest to come in.

The prominent highlights of the act are bringing the number of number of immigration decisions that can be appealed from 17 to 4, making sure that the courts take into consideration Parliament’s view of what the public interest needs, when taking into account European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) Article 8 claims in immigration cases, and some more of them.
