UK Likely To Rollout Biometric Residence Permit For Overseas Nationals

UK is likely to rollout Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) for non-EEA nationals who are seeking to enter the UK for over six months. This proposal will come into force from 15 March 2015 and would bring the UK similar to EU law. Thus, all the applicants are required to apply for BRP and if approved, collect it in a period of 10 days or less during their first access to the UK.

This new amendment would be delivering between March and July 2015, conditional on parliamentary consent.

The necessary visa application process will remain unchanged, however the applicants are required to produce details such as planned date of travel, UK address as well as post code. The submitted post code is used to recognize the branch of the Post Office to which BRP would be dispatched for the collection by the applicant.

A letter will be sent to the successfully selected applicants, informing them about the decision along with a notification that asks them to collect their Biometric Residence Permit from the specified branch of Post Office within a period of 10 days of their arrival to UK.

A short validity travel ‘vignette’—short term visa, will be granted on the passport or travel document with a validity period of 30 days from the planned date of travel that allows the applicant to travel the UK and get their BRP. No additional visa application fee will be charged for the applicant and the visa application fee remains same.

Any individual, who fails to travel to the UK in a period of 30 days or less, should apply for an alternate of short term visa with the Entry Clearance Officer that allows them to travel to the UK.
