The UK's immigration system after Brexit must be tailored to satisfy the requirements of the nation's extremely successful creative businesses, the Confederation of British Industry (C.B.I) has asked in a new report.
Started on 23 Oct in London in the attendance of Nicky Morgan, the Secretary for Digital & Sport, the 'Centre Stage' report told the nation creative industries added higher than £101 billion to the UK economy in the year 2017.
Yet the study observed 80% of companies in the industry worried that the UK could lose its fame as a global leader following Brexit.
The report requested the government to assure its post-Brexit policies immigration and skills are designed with the creative industries in mind that an improved effort is given to the profile with smaller creative firms on global trade missions, and those future regulations of internet address such difficulties as copyright infringement & piracy.
CBI director-general, Dame Carolyn Fairbairn stated, this report reflects a spotlight on the strength and vibrancy of creative industries of the UK. Creative industries firms contribute higher than the automotive & aerospace, oil & gas, sectors joined. It’s one of the several sectors that more flexible to automation and can increase productivity.
But a variety of difficulties - increasing global competition, copyright violations, and Brexit uncertainty, is now establishing pressure on this sector. Progressive interventions by the UK government in the past have promoted this sector to grow, thrive and prosper. This must be repeated again.
Across the UK government, policies around immigration, education, and global regulation should be made with this significant sector in mind. Creativity must be deemed equally valuable to literacy and numeracy in all schools. Any post-Brexit strategy on immigration must not limit the sector’s capability to hire and retain people.
The UK government needs to further invest in this area and perform world-leading protections on copyright. Otherwise, the risk of falling behind with European nations post-Brexit.
