Here’s some good news for Indians who would like o visit US. Citing the rise of number of Indians willing to visit the US day by day, the US has facilitated the visa granting process.
Each year, visa issuance is increased to 18%, and in 2014, more than 2 lakh visas have been issued, which represents to the grant of 1,500 visas for each day. The US consular chief Lawrence Mire said that their goal is to ease the legal travel to the US.
During a special media trip of US Consulate General Chennai’s Consular section, Mire said that ahead entering the consulate the average wait time for applicant to get his or her passport along with US visa is 25 minutes. He added that the overall process takes less than a week.
He also said that a number of people visit consulate even it is not mandatory. However, from now applicants can also ensure their eligibility easily on the application website.
The US Consulate located at Chennai has started copying all the 10 fingerprints of visa applicants at the same time announcing the renewals excluding visa interview.
Individuals who obtained visa after 1 August 2004 and prior to 1 January 2008, and submitted two prints need to make an appointment at Chennai Visa Application Centre, where applicant’s fingerprints will be taken as well as renewal applications are dropped, he said.
