US Federal officials plan to add a $10 fee for the initial stage of the latest application process for the H-1B visa, after concluding a rule that didn’t comprise the fee.
The latest process demands applicants and companies seeking visas for skilled workers to file a preliminary enrollment with U.S. Immigration and Customs Services prior to becoming qualified to appeal for the visa.
In January, the agency concluded the rule of registration, stating companies would stand the opportunity cost of time linked with registration, but the fee was not covered. Only the registrations chosen by the agency are to continue for the process of application, which can cost plenty of dollars per visa in legal expenses and fees to the government.
The agency has announced a notification of its intention to change the rule of registration to add a fee. The $10 charge on applications of visa subject to the yearly cap of 85,000 that could be inflicted in time for following year’s H-1B application time, in April, as per the notification of the intended amendment to the rule of registration.
Attaching registration to the application process of H-1B should save companies with registrations not chosen a cumulative of $40.4 million to $64.2 million per every year because they would be denied before the expensive following step, the notification announced.
The H-1B, meant for jobs demanding specific skills, has become a flashpoint in immigration debate of USA. Silicon Valley tech companies and others request for an increment to the yearly cap, claiming that they want more US H-1B visas to achieve the world’s best talent.
The US presidential administration has dramatically raised H-1B rejections, with staffing and outsourcing companies especially hard hit. A public comment time on the recommended new fee is permissible until 4 Oct 2019, as per the notification.
